In this article, we will discuss interesting features of Windows 10 that you may not have known about and that will be useful in your daily work. So, let’s get started.

Screenshots

How do Windows 10 users usually take screenshots? They press the Prt Sc button, then open Paint and paste the screenshot there. But there is a better and faster method!
In Windows 10, you can press Win + PrtSc, and that’s it—the finished screenshot will be saved in the folder C:\Users\Username\Pictures\Screenshots.

Disabling Quick Access in File Explorer

If you have used Windows 10, you have probably noticed that when you launch File Explorer, the Quick Access panel opens by default.

If this doesn’t suit you, you can set it to open the “This PC” section by default.

File Explorer => View tab => Options => in the new window, at the top, under “Open File Explorer to,” select “This PC” from the dropdown menu.

Window Snapping

Windows 10 has improved the window positioning feature with hotkeys. This works even if you have multiple monitors, as earlier updates only allowed snapping within a single monitor. To position a window, select any window (folder, program, browser, etc.) and choose the desired side using hotkeys.

Win + Left Arrow: Snaps the current window to the left half of the screen.

Win + Right Arrow: Snaps the current window to the right half of the screen.

Win + Up Arrow: Snaps the current window to the top half of the screen.

Win + Down Arrow: Snaps the current window to the bottom half of the screen.

God Mode

Many have probably heard of this mode, but it is essentially an extensive menu where all settings and parameters are gathered in one place. This is very convenient if you need to quickly configure the system. Enabling this mode is quite simple—just create a folder with the name:

softcomputers.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

You can replace “softcomputers” with any word, as long as it is in Latin characters before the dot.

Then simply open this new folder and use the extensive settings menu.

Deleting the Old System (Removing the Windows.old Folder)

If you installed the system without a clean install, for example, upgraded from Windows 7/8 or installed the system over the old one, you may have a “Windows.old” folder left. If you no longer plan to revert to the old system and want to delete this folder to free up space on your hard drive, simply moving it to the recycle bin won’t work.

To delete this folder, type “Disk Cleanup” in the search bar (magnifying glass icon in the lower left corner of the screen) => Select “C” => OK. Choose “Clean up system files,” select the necessary drive, and the system will find previous Windows installations and offer to delete them. In the updated list, find the “Previous Windows installations” item, check the box, and click “OK,” then confirm the deletion.

Forced Removal of Built-in System Apps

Windows 10 comes with pre-installed apps such as Photos, Store, Xbox App, Cortana, News, Weather, Edge, etc. Microsoft considers them an integral part of the operating system, and they cannot be removed using standard methods. But if you really need to, there is a solution.

Open PowerShell (click the search button in the lower left corner of the screen and type PowerShell).

Enter the following command: Get-AppxPackage

A list of removable apps will appear. Copy the full name of the app from the “PackageFullName” line that you want to remove.

Then run the command “Remove-AppxPackage

For example: Remove-AppxPackage Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_20.10240.16384.0_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe

Before doing this, it is advisable to create a restore point in case something goes wrong. This article is not responsible for the consequences of deleting system apps.

Battery Saver

Let’s return to laptop users. Windows 10 has introduced a special battery saver mode for low battery levels. You can configure this mode by going to Start => Settings => System => Battery Saver. In these settings, you can also see which apps consume the most battery.

Screen Recording

This feature is initially designed for recording games, but you can record anything else as you see fit. It is a very convenient built-in feature that eliminates the need for third-party programs.

To start, open the “Game Bar” by pressing the hotkeys “Windows + G

A pop-up menu will appear on the right—click the checkbox “Yes, this is a game.”

Then you will see the recording control panel. You can control it with the mouse or use hotkeys:

Windows + Alt + G records the last moments

Windows + Alt + R starts/stops recording

Windows + Alt + Print Screen takes a screenshot

Windows + Alt + T shows/hides the recording timer

Windows + Alt + M starts/stops audio recording
